Ideas can observed through brain scans and sharing ideas. Put four marbles in front of you. Divide the marbles into two piles. Now put them together. No matter how you divide the four marbles the whole is still four. Is that faith?

i’d have to disagree with you that faith is belief in the nonexistant though. it appears that your definition of faith is “a choice based on a feeling.” which many people would think is an appropriate definition. however, the dictionary definition of faith is complete trust or confidence in someone or something.

i’d argue that humans DO exhibit faith in every action they take. when you sit down on a chair you take faith in the fact that it won’t fall apart when you put your weight on it. you don’t know for sure. (i think it’s impossible to know most thing for sure) but there is a high probability you are going to be safe. (based on physical evidence, which is where you and i completely agree).

if you had evidence to the contrary but had a “spiritual sensation” or a feeling that you’d be fine it would still be faith to sit on the chair but it would also be stupid. this is the kind of “faith” i think you are referring to.

i believe in god because there is a high probability that he exists (based on physical evidence).

i really like this post. when i first read it i thought you were dismissing the idea of god altogether which is absolutely fine but now that i’ve reread it i realize we completely agree. people who “believe in god” without any proof or reason are blind fools.
