Shut out the lies and the eyes bleed enferno
She was kissed by the mouth of severed reply
Taunted like diction was weary and meek
Perhaps a love hole was never so sweet
My banter, my call, a shreek mocks them all
Perhaps, once again, once drowned, once enthrall

God does not have to exist. Logic can be a slippery slope to come to false truths or real truths. It is more the practice of riddles and making meanings, of syntax and playing with hidden ideology in the given language than truth.... After saying that, I admit that logic can be used to discover truth. but if we are to do so with words and not measurements, it is easy to be confused. We must define what we mean with each word. and we must agree at what each word means. and for that we must understand what the other thinks what each word means. with words that we may not share the same meaning.

Ideas can observed through brain scans and sharing ideas. Put four marbles in front of you. Divide the marbles into two piles. Now put them together. No matter how you divide the four marbles the whole is still four. Is that faith?

after rereading i'd like to add something else. that was an excellent example you used regarding love. you can tell someone loves you from the physical manifestation of that love. in the same way, you can tell that god exists through both physical evidence and logical necessity.

i'd have to disagree with you that faith is belief in the nonexistant though. it appears that your definition of faith is "a choice based on a feeling." which many people would think is an appropriate definition. however, the dictionary definition of faith is complete trust or confidence in someone or something.

i'd argue that humans DO exhibit faith in every action they take. when you sit down on a chair you take faith in the fact that it won't fall apart when you put your weight on it. you don't know for sure. (i think it's impossible to know most thing for sure) but there is a high probability you are going to be safe. (based on physical evidence, which is where you and i completely agree).

if you had evidence to the contrary but had a "spiritual sensation" or a feeling that you'd be fine it would still be faith to sit on the chair but it would also be stupid. this is the kind of "faith" i think you are referring to.

i believe in god because there is a high probability that he exists (based on physical evidence).

i really like this post. when i first read it i thought you were dismissing the idea of god altogether which is absolutely fine but now that i've reread it i realize we completely agree. people who "believe in god" without any proof or reason are blind fools.

what about ideas? they don't have a "physical impact" yet they exist. what about norms like mathematics? clearly 2=2 and there is no way to change that yet math isn't a physical tangible thing. even so it is evident that mathematics exists. i think it's the same way with god.

yes it is, and how we can talk about "epiphanies" -its edges and its form, but we can't share the center, the space that is inside even though almost everyone we know has similar experiences.

"Of course you realize that this is where you are alone." - Isn't it interesting how most epiphanies come when the only voice we hear is our own?
