Poet or Ham

Everyone You Know

Everyone you know will die

which is not important

but when you think of all the hardship

and focus on a face

you have an urge to shake

your fist at the beautiful blue and puffed

up water clouds

Here is a lesson.

Don’t slit your throat.

She’ll hate you for it.

When the world stops

grinding out your tongue

go paint or grow flowers.

Pour out the malt liquor

I have been thinking a lot about trails

There is nothing inherently wrong with the idea of making your own trail. Many have had big dreams and made the impossible, possible.  There is nothing wrong with following someone else’s trail either.  Humans don’t always follow the best path.  Sometimes when we are making a new trail we destroy the trail and what it leads to without realizing it or caring.

Some people have a knack for success and taking the lead.  We can think about Galileo who was the first to make a telescope that could see the craters of the moon.  We can talk of solar panels or automobiles or trains or fire.  Most humans are curious and creative forgers.   They discover ways of tackling their problems.  They came up with coffee makers and electric ovens.  They came up with the idea to cook their food and saved time in chewing.  They came up with blue jeans and leather jackets. They came up with science and weapons. Coming up with new ways of doing things and new ways of looking at the world, is connected, but it is not always connected to making money or landing a job. There are many brilliant humans who are unable to navigate our economic system to land a job that utilizes their strengths and allows them to maintain curiosity and creativity and gain new strengths.   What are humans full potential?  That is a question that does not get asked enough and does not have a limiting single answer.

Sure we need an environment like the earth to live in and on.  That we know.  We need space and room to grow.  Without the means of substance we cannot survive.  We know that as well but then why do we continue to destroy our planet?  There is not a clear path or alternative accessible to the majority of humans who live on this planet because the majority of humans are not leaders or trailblazers.  Most have to worry about substance and the day-to-day tasks of survival. They wait to follow a good idea, or the best and easiest one they come across.  There is nothing wrong with this.  It is why we have civilization.

Civilization is good idea.  Of the poor some are able, due to their genius, to pull themselves up by their own will and succeed and lead a productive and healthy life.  Others cannot for many reasons, such as they do not have the necessary skills or thought patterns or they suffer from disease.  Perhaps they could or have the potential but something limits them.  Sometimes it is a lack of resources, emotional and/or physical. Some people are not granted with genius.  Some are mediocre and some do not have the ability to navigate an elevator let alone civilization.  Are they useless?  No.  Can they learn?  Yes.   But they need someone to teach them, just like the successful were taught.  We often times take our knowledge or abilities for granted.  We think, if I did it, so can anyone but we don’t realize or admit the help we had along the way. Sometimes we are unaware of our advantages and lack self-consciousness.

There needs to be a clear path to substance. That is what we all need.  How can we help people and give them direction without limiting their potential and freedom? To end poverty’s perverted grip on our minds and bodies and spirits we need to address this question.  We need to think about freedom and human potential as a whole just as we perceive the mind, body and spirit as a whole and create a plan to address and meet humanity’s needs.

Humans have ability to alter their environments.  We build houses and cities, gardens and highways but how often do we design them as ecosystems for the health of humans? In zoos we take great care in designing the environments of the animals but in the creation of homes and cities we often times do not think along these lines.   We need to.  This is apart of the green revolution.  Humans are adaptive but that does not mean we should allow substandard living conditions or ignore where and how we live.  We should not adapt to pollution of our water, soil or air.  We should not adapt to starvation or ignorance or violence.  A holistic approach to a human ecosystem will encourage and help us achieve our potential.  This is not something that will be static but something that will continue to evolve as we learn and change.    We need earth to maintain and to live in health. We need each other and a green evolution to achieve our potential.

Mingle amongst yourselves and discuss

Homeless

You people who say “get a job -bum” to homeless people are stupid, greedy assholes.  I hope you lose your job and have to beg.  I hope you get head damage or lose your legs, and your family and friends abandon you.

Ok, so maybe that is harsh. I am sorry.  I don’t want you to be homeless.  I want you to care.  People are people.  Sure, some of the people who live on the street are lazy.  Some of them are crazy or fat or skinny or pretty or hungry or clean or dirty.   Some are little kids and some are ancient relics of humanity. Some are mothers and fathers. Some are on drugs and booze, some of them are violent and some of them peaceful and some have jobs and some don’t.  They are a lot alike the people who live in houses you stupid a hole.  Give a care.  Do the right thing.  You are not better than them.  You think you are but you are not.  Our economy is very bad now and a lot of people who used to live in houses are going to be homeless, maybe even you, maybe me.  Let us love.  Lets break our hearts for love.  Let us care more about other people.  Lets demand equality and humanity for all.

It is ok to be afraid of homeless people just like it is ok to be afraid of people who live in houses.  People are dangerous but that doesn’t mean everyone is and that doesn’t mean they don’t need your help.  I am afraid of war, poverty, greed, atomic bombs, bears, hot dogs, humanity with guns, mercury, worms, and people who rant and rave. It is ok.  I am not telling you to invite them to sleep in your bed.  I’m asking you to help them get one of their own.  If you have extra money, give it.  If you can spare time, give it and Bless America, like you keep asking God to.

Revolution Is A Tomato

Revolution is a tomato smashed

on the people, rich or poor.

Blood. Hope.  Change or

the masses will rise

with war to match

your oppression and greed.

The poor are everywhere

singing songs of love.

Will you be their shepherd

or the red carpet they wipe their hands on?

I have this new feeling

I have this strange little feeling growing inside of my heart.  Something that I have not felt.

Wait a minute, its hope.

Obama, Mr. President I am behind you.  I want what is best for our country too.

Stand on my back and I will carry you up the mountain.

I dream with you.  I imagine a future.  I am stretching my imagination

I see peace and substance.  I see a land where hard work and love interact.

I am visualizing humanity co-existing with nature, with life.

We are nature.  We are the gardeners.  I believe one day humanity will

evolve into our full potential.  It will happen. I dance now

I will continue to mediate on love.  I’ll eat it and wear it.  I will braid my hair with it.

I’ll give it away in every poem and in handshakes and hugs.

I will hold love in my body and give it away

with my eyes and soup.  I will love because I can

John Smith Smelled Like Shit

 They are still teaching

lies in school about John Smith.

I am not sure what to do about it.

I thought teaching lies to children

was something that stopped in 70s.

They teach the old lie

that we were taught and mad for it .

Was I the only mad for it?

I Believe This Year

I believe this year is going

to be the best one yet

I have regrets about the past

year (too much war salad).

This year will be better.

I have gps baby.

I’ll go for rides in the country,

down winding roads

that eat up barns and fields.

Moo cows await and little cheese

stands in front of church steps.

This is the year of sticky rice.

This year I’ll go to poetry

readings and read poems

out loud in front of people

I do not know but hope to.

I am full of new things.

Pass the ham please

Mulberries Grow In The Ghetto

When she was child she ate mulberries

in the ghetto, with purple tongue, lips and finger tips

she crammed the berries in mouth as if

someone would come and eat them all

when she was in bed having cow nightmares.

The other ghetto children said they were poison

and she laughed with the purple juice running down

her chin and said,  ”Yes, they are.  Don’t eat them”

Get Away

Sometimes I get away with

myself and write a thousand

words that could mean I am

insane or the new prophetess

There is no ether in suburbs

but there are pills to help

fear is the only thing to

so take your pill.

The honeybees are dead.

Bananas are the new hardwood

You know how we were talking about that guy

who went crazy from writing

and then we got on the topic of how a person

can go crazy on writing, it becomes a passion

than an obsession.

I don’t know exactly what time it was

but that was my yesterday.  I went

into the attic and could not make myself

climb down

Do you like what I’ve done with the place?

Welcome Home From The War

Brother is home

He has made it safe

He is with his wife

There will be peace

for at least six months

in America

Blue Diamond Bread

Since you won’t write the words

I’ll do it for you.  You love her

and she loves you.  There is nothing

more needed.  Hold her.

She laughs at your jokes

and bakes bread in the morning sun

You chop the wood and shovel the snow

with her smile in your body.

Together you build fires and sit by them.

At the store you drop her off at the door

when its rains. She waits and holds

the door for you with her hair and blouse wet.

When you die, she’ll be there

in blue diamonds and she’ll be silent

with those fires in her burning.

She’ll shut her eyes and rock away

this now and there.  And you will cry

from hell for her

so go now, go now to her.

Some love is true.

Go find if yours is.
