Annie Burie

Poet or Ham

You are as strong as a peaceful nation

You are as strong as a peaceful nation

Yet you find yourself in argument.

The world will learn to stand in your war.

Little girl. My strong willed daughter

-will you walk with a humble body

to see and to hear others before yourself

Little girl, my daughter

you were born a warrior.

I cannot change your path.

Burn the city and plunder

their dogs into sound

Little girl with the existence

inside of you, born and reborn,

little guru. The world in anger

continues to spawn disparity.

Will you enlace the master in equality

to teach him the answer or will you force him

to drink the aftermath of your slaughter

as he did to your ancestors

  1. I like where this one’s going, but it feels unfinished.

    …born and reborn,
    little guru.

This ode is strong, and shouldn’t taper off like it does.
It needs a punch-in-the-gut prayer finish.

    …The world in anger
    continues to spawn disparity.

And then the last lines fall kind of flat.
They shout rewrite me! or at least continue the thought through to WHY the master must answer to new paradigms.
